Fans thinking the lineup for UFC 149 was safe after already suffering an extraordinary run of injuries were proven wrong today when it was revealed Claude Patrick had been pulled from a scheduled scrap with James Head for health-related reasons. Patrick’s injury was one in a series of afflictions affecting the show with other fallen fighters including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Michael Bisping, and Jose Aldo.

Patrick’s status was confirmed by UFC officials who also announced Brian Ebersole would be stepping in on short notice to replace the 32-year old Canadian.

The fight will mark the second in-ring appearance for Ebersole in a month after facing T.J. Waldburger two weeks ago at UFC on FX 4. A colorful competitor, the 50-14-1 Ebersole has won eleven straight including a quartet of victories inside the Octagon.

Head holds an overall record of 8-2 with seven stoppages, most recently notching submission success over Papy Abedi this past April.
