There has been some debate as to whether or not UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez deserves a rematch with divisional champion Junior dos Santos after only picking up a win over Antonio Silva since suffering a knockout loss to the hard-hitting Brazilian this past November. However, Dos Santos himself apparently feels Velasquez is the top contender out there to his title despite the looming shadow cast by suspended challenger Alistair Overeem.

“I don’t think Overeem deserves to be fighting for the title at this point because he got his drug test failed so I think Cain Velasquez deserve his rematch against me,” said Dos Santos on this past week’s episode of Spike TV’s MMA Uncensored. “But it depends (on) the UFC. (If) they tell me to fight Overeem or Cain Velasquez or I don’t know who…I’ll be ready to fight.”

Dos Santos was also asked to give his opinion on unbeaten Strikeforce star Daniel Cormier who is seemingly destined for a UFC title-shot after one more win under his current organization’s banner. Still, though “Cigano” acknowledged Cormier’s talent he paid ultimate respect to Velasquez.

“I think Cain Velasquez is better than him,” said Dos Santos when comparing his former foe to the 10-0 former Olympian. “Cormier for sure is good. He’s Strikeforce champion now. But I think Cain Velasquez is more dangerous.”

“In this division I think Cain Velasquez is the #2 cause I am the #1,” Dos Santos added with a smile.

Velasquez is currently suspended for medical reasons due to a hand injury sustained against Silva at UFC 146. He will be out until November unless cleared early by a physician.
