It may not be the first event of its kind but tonight’s Invicta FC 1 lineup was certainly the strongest collective gathering of female competitors in Mixed Martial Arts making it unique in its own right.

The card, headlined by former Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen looking to come back strong in her first fight since the title-loss with submission-specialist Romy Ruyssen standing in her way, also featured bouts including the likes of Liz Carmouche, Kaitlin Young, Jessica Penne, Lisa Ellis-Ward, Michele Gutierrez, and Sarah D’Alelio, as well as the professional debut of Olympic bronze medalist wrestler Randi Miller.

Coenen looked good against the less-experienced Ruyssen, using her grappling and surprisingly impressive elbows to earn the Unanimous Decision nod. The performance improved her overall record to 20-5 and was only the third time she’d gone the distance.

“Ronda, I’m coming for you,” Coenen added at the end of her victory speech, pointing the finger at Strikeforce champion Ronda Rousey.

Other fights highlighting the evening included Penne’s third round TKO of Ellis-Ward in addition to a draw between Smith and Young.

The main event of Invicta FC 2 was announced as well with the July 28 headliner featuring unbeaten Olympic wrestler Sara McMann against veteran Shayna Baszler.
