One of the most anticipated groupings of the Bellator Season 6 tournaments took to the Bellator cage tonight as the welterweights were center stage at Bellator 63. Among the eight talented individuals looking to advance to the semifinal round are popular UFC veteran Ben Saunders, hard-hitting Frenchman Karl Amoussou, much-hyped newcomer Jordan Smith, and Bellator alums Chris Lozano/Bryan Baker.

Things almost got started early during weigh-ins yesterday when Amoussou and Lozano went nose-to-nose and had to be separated by CEO Bjorn Rebney, continuing to shout at each other even after being split up. Come showtime the action was equally tense with a period of feeling out followed by a beautiful head-kick by Amoussou opening up Lozano’s forehead. Lozano responded with a takedown but found himself in mount after a beautiful sweep from “Psycho”. After some ground-and-pound Lozano gave up his back and ended up getting choked out as a result.

“I’m not hear to beat the guys. I’m here to destroy them,” said an animated Amoussou after the victory.

Others advancing to the final four were Saunders, Baker, and Rickels.
