The UFC’s annual July 4th Weekend card grew again today with the addition of a bantamweight bout between sensational scrapper Renan Barao and submission specialist Jeff Hougland. Their fight is the latest in a run of recently announced rumbles for UFC 148 including middleweight match-ups featuring Rich Franklin-Cung Le and Tim Boetsch-Michael Bisping.

UFC officials confirmed the clash through the company’s website.

Barao will be competing for more than simply a win when he meets Hougland, as the 28-1 Brazilian is essentially guaranteed a shot at the winner of Dominick Cruz’s title-defense against Urijah Faber (also scheduled for the July 7 card). Remarkably, he has emerged with his hand raised in every fight since his debut minus a No Contest while also scoring nineteen stoppages. The 25-year old is 3-0 since joining the UFC’s roster, picking up wins over Cole Escovedo, Brad Pickett, and most recently Scott Jorgensen.

While Hougland will be a clear underdog in his meeting with Barao, the 10-4 grappler has won his last nine fights including his UFC debut. Seven of his victories have come by way of submission.
