Instead of facing a third consecutive opponent with vastly superior experience it looks like Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson has finally drawn someone with similar seasoning. According to multiple reports, 60+ fight veteran Dennis Hallman has withdrawn from a bout with Ferguson for health-related reasons and will be replaced by Brazilian Thiago Tavares. Though the bout’s make-up has been changed it will still take place on May 5 as part of the undercard for UFC on FOX 3.

TATAME was first to reveal Hallman’s withdrawal as well as Tavares filling the vacancy.

The 13-3 Ferguson has won both of his fights since coming away with the TUF 13 title, beating both Yves Edwards (60 fights) and Aaron Riley (43 fights) in convincing fashion. The 28-year old has emerged successful in six straight scraps with his powerful, precise boxing providing five TKO stoppages along the way.

Comparably, Tavares is 17-4 and riding the momentum of back-to-back wins over Spencer Fisher and Sam Stout. While Ferguson may prefer keep things standing, Tavares is an accomplished grappler with eleven of his triumphs involving some form of tap-out.

UFC on FOX 3 is headlined by Jim Miller mixing it up with Nate Diaz for top contendership in the lightweight division and is highlighted by bouts like Alan Belcher-Rousimar Palhares and Josh Koscheck-Johny Hendricks.
