Mike Whitehead has fought some of MMA’s toughest including Keith Jardine, Renato Sobral, Kevin Randleman, Ben Rothwell, and Muhammed Lawal, but none of those battles will compare to the one his career now faces after being sentenced for sexual assault stemming from a 2010 charge. Whitehead made an Alford plea to reduce the charges to “attempted” meaning he proclaimed innocence while accepting guilt and will now spend 1-4 years behind bars in a Nevada correctional facility.

Whitehead was reported by the Associated Press as having sobbed while the punishment was read.

The 27-7 journeyman will also have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and pay a $2,400 fine.

Professionally, the 30-year old has won his last three fights including victories over Chase Gormley and Eddie Sanchez. Other highlights in the cage for Whitehead involve wins against Vernon White, Krzysztof Soszynski, and the aforementioned Rothwell.
