Erick Silva made an impressive UFC debut in Brazil at UFC 134 this past August when he finished Luis Ramos in 40 seconds with a flurry of punches. He’ll be returning to Brazil in January to take a much tougher opponent in the form of Shooto champion and MMA veteran Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 142.

UFC officials have confirmed the fight.

The champion of Jungle Fight, Silva has yet to fight outside his native country of Brazil. He’s compiled a 13-1 (1) record, although his competition level hasn’t been up to the level of his opponent’s. Training with Team Nogueira though allows “Indio” to regularly spar with some of the best fighters in the world. He’s currently on a 10 fight unbeaten streak.

Longtime MMA fans know just how dangerous Bahadurzada is. A veteran of 25 fights, he trains at Golden Glory and has fought the likes of Jorge Santiago, Kazuo Misaki, and John Alessio. Newer MMA fans might recognize him from his appearance on this season of The Ultimate Fighter as one of Jason Miller‘s surprise training partners. He’s currently on a six fight win streak and has only lost twice since 2005.

UFC 142 is scheduled for January 14 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The night will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and top contender Chad Mendes.
