A historic night was capped off by a “Knockout of the Night” performance by NEW champion Junior dos Santos who stopped Cain Velasquez in the opening round of their UFC on FOX headliner around a minute into their bout. The loss was the first of Velasquez’s career and marked the ninth straight victory for the humble Brazilian. JDS won $65,000 for the award.
Surprising few, “Fight of the Night” and the money were awarded to Ben Henderson and Clay Guida after an expectedly epic encounter. The opening round featured both lightweights getting rocked with Henderson edging “The Carpenter” out with a closer-than-scored Unanimous Decision victory.
Meanwhile, “Submission of the Night” (plus the attached cash) went to Ricardo Lamas after a beautiful Arm-Triangle Choke against fellow WEC veteran Cub Swanson. The submission marked the third of Lamas’ career and eleventh win overall.
