UFC fans who have appreciated the in-ring offerings from Wanderlei Silva for more than a decade will now have a chance to check out his work as a coach thanks to the recent signing of Wand Fight Team welterweight Jorge Lopez who will make his promotional debut next month at the “Battle on the Bayou” in New Orleans.

Though not officially announced by the UFC yet, Lopez broke the news through his Twitter account where the 22-year old also explained he already had an opponent lined up for the September 17 event – Justin Edwards.

A student of Strikeforce’s Jorge Gurgel, Edwards is best known for his scrap with Tony Ferguson on the Ultimate Fighter 13 followed by a solid showing on the TUF 13 Finale against Clay Harvison, a bout he eventually lost by Split Decision. The loss marked the first professional defeat for Edwards who holds a 6-1 record with six stoppages to boot.

Lopez has also only been beaten a single time in his career, racking up an 11-1 record since first stepping into the cage in 2007, and is currently on a ten-fight winning streak including wins over Brent Cooper and Waachim Spiritwolf.

Their match-up joins a card headlined by former Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields mixing it up with surging 170er Jake Ellenberger. The lineup also features Evan Dunham vs. Shamar Bailey, Dongi Yang vs. Court McGee, and Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald.
