After having recently signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, EliteXC and Affliction veteran welterweight Mike Pyle has been tapped as a last-minute replacement for Saturday’s UFC 98 event in Las Vegas.
The official website for the UFC first revealed the news.
According to the UFC.com report, Pyle was tapped to replace Chris Wilson in tomorrow’s welterweight contest vs. Brock Larson. The report did not indicate why the change was made, but Wilson indicates that red tape was the issue.
“After several months of training, tapering for the fight, dieting, traveling and even cutting half of my weight the day before weigh-ins my fight has been canceled,” Wilson began to write on his blog.
“The Nevada State Athletic Commission did not approve some of my medicals and we couldn’t (hustle) them all out in time despite last minute physicals, blood tests, international conference calls and even a little prayer. No joke, I really prayed.
“I’ve been told that I would likely be put on the earliest possible show in any slot that opens at welterweight. That is little relief since I was ready now and need the money but it will have to do.”
