A welterweight bout between welterweights Anthony Johnson and John Howard will not be taking place during the live finale for the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter on June 20 as previously reported.

Sources close to Johnson revealed to FiveOuncesOfPain.com on Friday that while the match was proposed and Johnson had agreed to it, Howard never submitted a signed bout agreement.

Johnson could still compete at the TUF 9 finale against a new opponent. Several possibilities have been discussed but a rumored bout between Johnson and fellow welterweight prospect Dustin Hazelett is not expected to take place.

The TUF 9 finale is set to emanate from the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas and will be headlined by a battle of former Ultimate Fighter winners Nate Diaz and Joe Stevenson. The card will also feature the lightweight and welterweight finals from TUF 9 as well as a welterweight matchup between Brad Blackburn and Edgar Garcia.
