Strikeforce heavyweight champion and DREAM standout Alistar Overeem has revealed his representatives have been engaged in possible contract talks with both the UFC and Affliction.
Overeem, who is coming off a first round knockout over former K-1 heavyweight champion Badr Hari during a K-1 rules match at FEG’s “Dynamite!!” on New Year’s Eve, made the revelation during an interview with the website DreamFighters.com.
“My management has been in contact with Affliction as well as the UFC,” Overeem is quoted as saying.
Overeem also talked about his future plans by mentioning that he has issued challenges to UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, and Remy Bojansky in a match that would be contested under K-1 rules.
However, Overeem said that his most immediate move will be to go on vacation during the month of January before returning to the gym in February. Part of his vacation plans included attenting UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland on January 17. It’s possible he could speak with UFC officials at that time about a contract but the promotion is unlikely to sign him if he cannot remain exclusive to them.
