In addition to being the executive producer for the “Bubba the Love Sponge Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio, Brent Hatley is one of the biggest supporters of mixed-martial arts on mainstream radio. The show, which can be heard every weekday from 3-7 p.m. ET on Sirius on channel 101 as a part of the Howard Stern channels, has featured the likes of Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Dan Henderson, Matt Serra, B.J. Penn and other top fighters. Bubba, Hatley, Spice Boy, Manson, Ned and the crew have also broadcast live from several UFC events in the past.

Hatley is more than just a fan, though, as he’s also a participant. Training out of the Gracie affiliate in Tampa, Fla. under the guidance of head trainer Rob Kahn, the former Marine trains both Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu and made his amateur Muay Thai debut several weeks back. While the outcome of the bout didn’t go the way Hatley would have liked, he vowed to return to the ring during a recent interview he conducted with (

Sam Caplan: There are some big UFC matches coming up, and I wanted to get your thoughts. First would be the heavyweight title fight this weekend between Randy Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74.

Brent Hatley: I think Randy Couture will win. He’s even been training from what I understand with the likes of Wanderlei Silva. So I think Randy Couture wins, but I would not be surprised if Gonzaga upset him. Gonzaga is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and obviously against Mirko Cro Cop he showed that he can strike as well. I think Randy Couture wins that one, but I also think it’s going to be a close fight.

Q: At UFC 75 it’s going to be Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Dan Henderson, and you guys have had both on your show as guests in recent months. Who do you like in that matchup?

BH: I like Dan Henderson. I think matchups make fights, and I think he matches up well with Rampage, so I think Dan Henderson wins that one. Again, that one could be close but I think that Dan Henderson has the skillset to beat Rampage.

Q: In general, who do you consider to be the most exciting fighter out there right now? Who do you enjoy watching?

BH: Hands down Fedor Emelianenko! I think everybody can agree that he’s the best MMA fighter in the world. Just watching that guy is amazing. He takes unbelievable punishment and shakes it off like it doesn’t even bother him and then wins by any number of ways. Fedor by far is the best fighter out there.
