Remember when many thought Dustin Poirier was being served up to Conor McGregor? “The Diamond” made a statement that he is still a viable contender in the Octagon with a finish of former champion Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 120 Saturday night.

Poirier, who bloodied Pettis, earned the win via TKO in the third round.

The win moved Poirier’s overall record to 22-5 with one no-contest, which he suffered earlier this year vs. Eddie Alvarez. He is 5-1 since that 2014 defeat the McGregor, the current UFC lightweight titleholder.

Pettis fell to 20-7 in his second bout back at lightweight after a run in the featherweight division. It appeared an injury forced Pettis to tap during a grappling exchange.

If Saturday was the end for Matt Brown, “The Immortal” went out on a great note.

In what he has previously stated would be his retirement fight, Brown knocked out Diego Sanchez in the co-main event, delivering a first round elbow that ended it. Brown, who turns 37 in January, is 21-16 in his career with wins over Sanchez, Stephen Thompson and Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski picked up his 15th career win inside the Octagon, downing Junior Albini via decision. Arlovski is now 26-15 overall in his career, with one no-contest. It was a tough night for UFC veteran Nate Marquardt, as he was downed by Cezar Ferreira. The Brazilian picked up the split decision, taking the fight on two scorecards.

Raphael Assuncao picked Matthew Lopez apart piece by piece before finishing him in the third round with a thunderous punch. Assuncao has won three straight since a 2016 loss to current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.
