According to a report by MMAjunkie.com, Fabricio Werdum has now decided to follow Cain Velasquez and not compete next month at UFC 196.
On Sunday, UFC officials announced that Stipe Miocic would challenge Werdum for the heavyweight title after an injury scrapped the rematch between Werdum and Velasquez.
However, it now appears as if Werdum (20-5-1) has decided to do the same, leaving the main event for the February 6 card unknown at this point.
“I already had an injury. I have a cracked toe on my right foot,” Werdum told MMAjunkie.com. “I haven’t trained in two weeks. Regardless, I was still going to face Cain Velasquez.
“Now, this past Friday, I hurt my back.” I decided not to fight since I’m not 100-percent.”
Werdum added that he would have remained on schedule to face Velasquez because “there’s a history between us due to our previous fight.”
