Donald Cerrone’s next fight will be for the ultimate prize, as the red-hot lightweight takes on UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos.
When and where that bout goes down, though, remains a mystery. UFC president Dana White confirmed plans for the future bout to UFC.com.
“‘Cowboy’ Cerrine is definitely the next challenger for the belt,” White said. “He fights anyone, anywhere, anytime. He always keeps his composure. Cowboy is next in line.”
Cerrone (28-6) picked up his eighth consecutive win, and fifth straight finish, when he stopped John Makdessi over the weekend. He is 15-3 over his Octagon career, including wins vs. Benson Henderson and Myles Jury.
Dos Anjos (24-7) won the title when he defeated Anthony Pettis. He is currently sidelined after undergoing minor surgery on his nose and recovering from a knee injury.
