It’s pretty safe to say that nearly everyone was shocked to hear that Anderson Silva has allegedly tested positive for steroids, and the legendary fighter still says he was too…
Since news of Silva’s drug tests were reported, the former UFC champ has insisted he “always played clean” and that he never knowingly used performance enhancing drugs. The massive scandal broke not long after Silva decisioned Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on January 31st.
Well, as the MMA world waits to see what Silva and his camp say at his upcoming hearing with the commission, TMZ recently caught up with the 39 year-old fighter. When Silva was asked to comment on the situation, the Brazilian star stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I don’t know what happened. I’m surprised,” “Silva said. “When my manager called me and said ‘Anderson, we have a problem because you go to the test for the commission is bad’. I said, ‘What, I don’t know what happened’.”
Then, Silva was asked about whether “he was just trying to help his leg”. Recently, it was reported that Silva’s team will tell the Nevada Commission that the fighter used prohibited substances, but only for ‘therapeutic’ purposes. Silva responded: “yeah, but I don’t think so. I need to check all the supplements I use.”
“The Spider” then acknowledged that the scandal has been “bad” for MMA, as well as his career, and he also conceded that he’ll likely be out for a year. Silva is expected to appear in front of the commission later in March, but barring a successful appeal, he’ll likely be suspended for a minimum of nine months.
When Silva was told that Diaz’s manager is reportedly calling for the fight to be declared a no contest, the renowned fighter said he’d be willing to book a rematch when he’s cleared to fight again.
So, there you have it. Could Silva-Diaz II materialize at some juncture? It’s possible, but don’t bet the farm / house/ condo on it…
