Johny Hendricks Planning New Lifestyle After UFC 181 Loss

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks knows what it feels like to lose a decision.

Now, he knows what that feels like when the title was previously his.

Last year, “Bigg Rigg” lost via decision to Georges St-Pierre. He came back to win the vacant belt over Robbie Lawler, but dropped it Saturday night at UFC 181.

“I thought I clearly won the first three rounds,” he said, during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “The fourth and fifth rounds, the body just shut down. He came on strong.

“Early on, my takedown were great. I was trying to wear him down, grind him and get his arms tired, but it did the total opposite.”

Hendricks didn’t take anything away from Lawler, who earned his first UFC title. He did mention plans to control his weight outside of fight-week with famed nutritionist Mike Dolce.

“I had a bad weight cut,” he said. “Maybe I can’t balloon up to 215 pounds. The weight came off early and then it stopped.

“Robbie is the champion and now I get excited to fight someone else.”

I thought rounds 1 and 4 were pretty close, both I gave to Lawler though and 2,3,and 5 were clear cut being 2, and 3 for Johnny and 5 for Lawler. Still it was close and could have gone either way but I REALLY hope they do not do a third fight until each guy fights somebody else. Lawler has to fight Rory again and Hendricks should have at least 1 more fight.

I had it scored rounds 2 and 3 definitely for Hendricks, 4 and 5 definitely for Lawler, and I had round one as a coin flip. And I agree on not doing an immediate rematch, especially with a built in rematch with Rory already setup so perfectly.

He had trouble cutting the weight the last fight.. why not move up a class if he can get the title that’s huge..

  • AlphaOmega says:

Dana is already talking about a 3rd fight
