Michael Bisping was a guest host on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday and addressed his recent interaction with Luke Rockhold.
Following a win over Cung Le in China, Bisping and members of his family had a run-in with the former Strikeforce champion. It led to more verbal warfare between the two sides, and Rockhold laid down a bet.
“He wanted to be on the fight,” Bisping said. “He said if he beats me, he gets my purse and I get his (if I beat him). We saw him at the zoo taking good care of tigers.
“Luke, I want to fight you, but the bet’s off.”
Rockhold took some pictures with a tiger at a zoo that led to some calling him out for his “touching” of the animal.
The 35-year-old Bisping (25-6) avoided suffering his first career losing streak when eh stopped Le last month. Prior to that, he suffered a decision loss to Tim Kennedy. “The Count” has posted a 3-3 record in his last six since winning four in a row from 2010-11.
Rockhold, meanwhile, has scored two finishes this year to improve his overall record to 12-2.
Another possible contender – or even future opponent for Bisping – could emerge from tonight’s UFC Fight Night 50 card, as Gegard Mousasi meets Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a scheduled five-round middleweight affair.
“This is a huge fight in the division,” Bisping said. “Jacare came into the division as a highly-touted submission guy. At the start, he was submitting everyone, but now he’s been knocking out people.
“But Mousasi’s a beast. He’s done it all. He’s got knockout power, he’s got submissions, he’s got wrestling; he’s very well-rounded, very experienced and that means he’s very dangerous.”
Bisping continued, explaining exactly what Mousasi needs to do in order to win the battle of former Strikeforce titleholders.
“(Mousasi’s” one of the most experienced middleweights in the division,” Bisping said. “He’s got to control the range and establish the position with his jab. He’s got to use the jab and keep him on the outside. He’s got to use the clinch and stop the takedown.
“Jacare’s BJJ will be useless if he doesn’t take you down.
