UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has offered a public apology for the knee injury that knocked him out of a planned September fight with Daniel Cormier.
“Bones” will now defend his title in January against Cormier at UFC 182, as he is set for surgery on Thursday to repair the damage done in training.
Jones (20-1) picked up his 14th UFC victory earlier this year when he defended his title vs. Glover Teixeira. He was originally scheduled to rematch Alexander Gustafsson, but “The Mauler” went down with an injury and was replaced by Cormier.
Jones and Cormier heated up the intensity level surrounding their fight when they “brawled” on stage during a media day last week. The two were also interviewed on ESPN, FOX Sports 1 and several other networks after the incident.
