Welterweight Contenders Added To UFC Fight Night: Canada

Tarec Saffiedine

A rumored welterweight scrap between contenders Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine has been officially announced by the UFC.

The contest will take place October 4 from Nova Scotia, Canada and is expected to serve as the main event. It is the only fight announced to date for the card.

MacDonald (17-2) has picked up two straight decision wins since a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler last November. Overall, the Canadian is 7-1 in his last eight fights, including wins over Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia and B.J. Penn.

Saffiedine (15-3) is on a five-fight win streak, earning a decision victory over Hyun Gyu Lim in his Octagon debut this past January. He was the last man to hold the Strikeforce title, winning the belt from Nate Marquardt.

Pretty good match up here, Saffidine is a very solid striker with a ton of experience, i would guess Rory goes back to being more tachtical rather than rushing in like he did to Woodley.

MacDonald and Lawler should fight again for #1 contender, both are on a 2 fight streak, both are deserving. Oh well I guess

I kind of figured we would be getting Rory but this match-up doesn’t make a bunch of sense for him. It’s a no win situation for him other than a keep busy fight. I’m still excited. Been to many big boxing events but this will be my first live UFC event.
