Stefan Struve will make his return from a heart ailment, as “The Skyscraper” faces Matt Mitrione this July at UFC 175.
Officials announced the heavyweight contest recently, as it joins a double-title lineup on July 5 from Las Vegas. In the main event, Chris Weidman defends his middleweight championship against Lyoto Machida, while Ronda Rousey puts her female bantamweight belt up for grabs vs. Alexis Davis.
Struve (25-6) was diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve and enlarged heart shortly after a loss to Mark Hunt last year. He received treatment and has spent the past several months working to get back into fighting condition.
Now, the 26-year-old will have a chance to secure his 10th career Octagon victory. Struve owns wins over the likes of Stipe Miocic, Lavar Johnson and Pat Barry.
Mitrione (7-3) will be looking for his first win streak with the promotion since 2011, as he is coming off a knockout of Shawn Jordan earlier this year. Prior to the win, the former NFL player had lost three of four, including defeats at the hands of Brendan Schaub and Roy Nelson.
Other bouts lined up for the card include Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen and Uriah Hall vs. Thiago Santos. The event will also be part of International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
