Bigfoot Silva Tests Positive For Elevated Levels Of TRT

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva failed the post-fight drug test following his recent war with Mark Hunt, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Silva had been issued a therapeutic use exemption for TRT, but his levels were higher than allowed in the post-fight test.

“All fighters on the UFC Fight Night card were drug tested by an independent third-party laboratory at the event and all fighters passed their drug tests with the exception of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva,” the UFC said in a statement. “Although Silva is on a medically approved regimen of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), and had been in compliance with therapeutic guidelines on all pre-fight tests performed prior to the event, the results of his test on the day of the event indicated a level of testosterone outside of allowable limit.”

Silva and Hunt fought to a majority draw in Australia, with each earning $50,000 for “Fight of the Night” honors.

The fighter took to Facebook to try and clear up the issue.

“Months before my fight I looked for the UFC doctor Marcio Tannure in Brazil so I could start the hormonal replacement “TRT” which was authorized and recognized by a professional,” Silva said on Facebook. “I started the treatment and 2 weeks before my fight I did all the exams required by the UFC.

“My testosterone level continued to be low so I was recommended by the doctor to increase the dosage. Unfortunately my level increased too much and caused me to suspend. I only did what was recommended by someone trained who understands about the subject therefore it was not my mistake. I’m cool because I know that the mistake was not made by me, I never tried doing anything wrong for my fight.”

I feel bad for all these guys who are unable to naturally produce normal levels of testosterone. But at the same time it’s inspiring to see them overcome this obstacle in pursuit of their goals as professional athletes.

So is there any fallout because Bigfoot was over? Is this going to be an NC, or are they going to let it ride?

  • AlphaOmega says:

Probably let it ride since it’s a draw, haven’t heard about any suspensions though. If a dr did tell him to up his dosage right before the fight then he’s not technically in the wrong

  • fanoftna33 says:

Bigfoot has lost his $50,000 to Hunt and has a N/C on his record while Hunt keeps the draw. Not to sure on this as I know Bigfoot has had Thyroid or Pitutary gland surgery in the past and may acually be in very legit need of TRT.

  • AlphaOmega says:

Did you hear that a reporter from mmajunkie woke hunt up and started telling him stuff about the fight and asking his opinions, so he answered, except the guy never told Hunt that he was being interviewed and it was being recorded
