UFC’s Shane del Rosario in Critical Condition

Shane Del Rosario

News is surfacing Wednesday that UFC heavyweight Shane del Rosario suffered cardiac arrest yesterday and is in critical condition as a result.

The 30 year-old fighter’s manager, Jason House from Iridium Sports, recently announced via Twitter that:

Shane Del Rosario had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning. He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill. Our prayers are with him and his family.

In a follow up report from MMA, the outlet relayed that del Rosario is currently at the Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California.

The story also notes that the Strikeforce vet suffered a herniated disc in a 2011 car crash, before returning to action last year.

Del Rosario’s training partner Erik Apple also posted the following via his Instagram account:

@shanedelrosario yesterday my friend had 2 heart attacks and he is still fighting for his life. I got to see him last night and hold his hand and I know he isn’t giving up so we shouldn’t either

The news comes not longer after it was announced that del Rosario will no longer find Guto Inocente next month at UFC 168, as a result of a rib injury. The noted striker hasn’t fought since last December, when he was stopped by Pat Barry at the TUF 16 Finale.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Very disrespectful reports of his death floating around the web despite the fact Del Rosario remains on life support as the family holds out hope for a miracle.

  • AlphaOmega says:

I’ve seen both reports, I was just going off what the UFC/Dana announced

  • Richard Stabone says:

Yeah apparently it was an espn outlet that ran with the erroneous death confirmation, so can’t blame people for naturally reacting & expressing condolences. Shoddy journalism, especially surrounding such a sensitive situation.

  • SBERG says:

It’s being reported that the family will have him removed from life support at some point in the morning…..Very sad. Wish the best to his family and friends….and if by some miracle Shane can become alert and live beyond today then by all means let it happen…

  • hindsightufuk says:

guy had so much potential, remember seeing him on ShoXC some years ago, ko’s & submissions in abundance. such a damn shame

  • Brendhan Conlan says:

Miraculous recovery or not, hopefully this situation brings some good into the world by reminding us all how precious life is and that tomorrow is not promised, as well as to appreciate those you truly love just a little bit more.

  • Brendhan Conlan says:

According to Bleacher Report, Del Rosario is off life support and breathing on his own. He also squeezed his mother’s hand.

  • Richard Stabone says:

^ Amazing!! Not out of the woods by any means but definitely encouraging news… c’mon Shane!

  • SBERG says:

Now that’s something to be thankful for…
