UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is giving himself some much-needed R&R.
Over the past year-plus, Jones has filmed The Ultimate Fighter and defeated both Chael Sonnen and Alexander Gustafsson.
After admittedly rushing himself in training to get back to face Gustafsson, Jones is taking the rest of 2013 off from training.
Malki Kawa, Jones’ manager, told “UFC Tonight” Wednesday that his client is looking to return to action in either March or April. He will face Glover Teixeira, as long as the Brazilian top contender doesn’t take another fight in the meantime.
Jones (19-1) set a new division-record by besting Gustafsson, earning his sixth successful title defense. He owns wins over Shogun Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort since 2011.
