Dana White Goes Off On Nevada, Judges; Doesn’t Trust Doing Fights In Vegas Anymore

The message from UFC president Dana White was clear and to the point following UFC 167 Saturday night.

Las Vegas, you need to clean up your athletic commission.

White was irate after the Nevada Athletic Commission gave Georges St-Pierre a split decision victory over Johny Hendricks in a battle for the UFC welterweight title.

“Nevada’s a very scary place; it’s the worst commission on the planet,” said White, during the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1. “I am afraid to bring fights to Las Vegas. I never thought I would say that about this city, the city I live in, a city I love; it’s the worst commission on the planet.”

White added that he gave Hendricks the fight and had St-Pierre winning “only the third round, that’s it.

“The commission, these guys….just despicable. This city is scary. It’s not the scoring system, it’s the judges. Look around the Octagon at who is judging these fights. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has a lot of work to do,” he said. “It makes me sick.

“They better start figuring it out.”

The brash boss of the biggest MMA promotion in the world did make one thing clear: St-Pierre isn’t retiring. After the bout, “Rush” stated his plans to “leave” MMA for now.

“GSP will not retire after that fight,” White stated. “He owes it to the fans, this company, Johny Hendricks to do that fight again.”

I get that Dana is pissed now but he might want to reign it in, for one GSP has enough money/endorsements/sponsorship that if he’s pushed he can tell the UFC to go screw themselves and quit for real. Two NSAC isn’t above being petty after someone blasts them, look at Big John, Dana might fool around and end up not being able to have cards in LV or get his big names licensed there.

Fucken Dana pisses me off!! It was a close fight that, in my opinion, could have gone either way. Dana’s gravy train that he calls his PPV king, the guy who has won decisively many time and has earned the company oodles of cash, wins a narrow split and he thinks that his opinion on the fight should reign supreme. Judging is subjective and Johny didn’t clearly win so there’s no place for the company prez to throw his meal ticket under the bus. The talk of possibly retiring in the ring was discussed at the pre-fight presser so what’s the big surprise? A-hole!!!

  • AlphaOmega says:

Just read an article where Dana stepped out and talked to GSP for a couple minutes then came back to the presser and said that whatever he was dealing with really wasn’t all that big of a deal and he will come back and do the rematch soon. Now I don’t know what GSP is going through, but it seems kinda messed up at least to him, where does Dana get to say if it’s a big deal or not.

I generally like Dana. I like that the UFC is lead by a true fan. But this guy has to learn when to shut his flapping lips. He needs to realize that opinions are like assholes, we all have them, and none of them need to be shown in public.

I dig his passion, but his professionalism is clearly lacking. Before he opens his mouth, he needs to consider how his words reflect on the UFC and MMA. If only he had the intelligence and emotional maturity to achieve that. If only…

  • Niv says:

Love the UFC always loathed White, and here’s why. I agree that Hendricks won the fight, but the guy shows his true colours every time he opens his mouth.

If anyone believe’s for one second he cares about his fighters listen carefully to how he treated GSP. He owes it to the fabs, the company and Hendricks to fight again?

What a douche, does White owe his company’s greatest champion anything? The guy who’s the perfect ambassador to a sport deemed as human cockfighting by some. The guy who helped bring the sport to heights never imagined before as the biggest ppv draw. How about showing some genuine regard for the man and give him his space and help to heal himself. Make up an interim title fight, let Hendricks fight Condit for tge title and go from there.
