UFC 163 Results: Jose Aldo retains title after Chan Sung Jung suffers unfortunate injury

The last time UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo fought in his home country of Brazil he knocked Chad Mendes out with a second to go in the rumble’s opening round before running out of the cage and into the crowd to celebrate with his countrymen. While its unknown if the 22-1 Aldo has similar antics planned entering tonight’s tilt at UFC 163, there’s little doubt “Scarface” was aiming to find similar success against Chan Sung Jung (13-3).

Aldo looked sharp as usual in the bout, landing some solid shots throughout. Unfortunately, injury interfered with the ultimate outcome, as an issue with Jung’s shoulder opened him up to the strike-based stoppage defeat in the fourth frame of the fight.

Outside of their main event meeting, the lineup also featured notable match-ups between Vinny Magalhaes-Anthony Perosh, Thales Leites-Tom Watson, and Lyoto MachidaPhil Davis.

Perosh pulled off the upset, knocking Magalhaes out in fourteen seconds, while Leites returned to the Octagon in fine form and grappled his way to a Unanimous Decision nod. Meanwhile, Machida’s meeting with Davis was a competitive affair though one seeing “The Dragon” get the edge more often than not minus a few takedowns. However, Davis’ ability to put Machida on the mat a few times turned out to be enough, earning him the judges’ favor and a victory.

For the first time in years, I’m going to have to miss a card. I was looking forward to this one too.

  • darth_irritable says:

McCall’s looking good. I keep expecting him to slip in a quick fondle and grope in the clinch.

  • MickeyC says:

Shit Vinny. I was rootin 4 ya too!

  • Creature says:

Well.. Did not see that coming at all. Props to Perosh.

  • MCM says:

odds on Watson getting cut after this?

  • AlphaOmega says:

Only saw the prelims what with lack of money, and sudden sickness, but I loved Perosh’s right, and the prelims were really good.

  • fanoftna33 says:

Hope they don’t cut Watson. McCall looked pretty good here but Santos was pretty tough.

  • MickeyC says:

    Wow!I thought machida won that.

  • MCM says:

watching a bad stream of the fights but I thought Machida did just enough to win that fight.

  • MickeyC says:

Must have been the takedowns. I could really see Phil getting passed up for a title shot, if somthing more interesting comes up like DC.

  • SBERG says:

UUUGGG just got home from meetings…Haven’t watched anything yet…from what I read Machida got robbed but have to see it to really give an opinion…

  • MCM says:

that sucks for KZ. Separated shoulder in a boring fight. Hopefully he goes full out in his next couple fights.

  • MickeyC says:

Tuff break foe tha zombie. Is it the same shoulder he had surgery on? Looked like he was just starting to get in the zone. Whos next for aldo?

  • darth_irritable says:

For God’s sake, give Davis to Jones so we can finally be rid of this notion of Davis as some kind of prodigy.

  • hindsightufuk says:

didnt think Lyoto was robbed, just another dull decision performance. i like Lyoto, but if you choose to fight like that you’re always at the judges mercy. was always gonna be a 3 round decision that i wasnt going to enjoy watching. glad the prelims performed, was left a bit unsatisfied by the main card
