When a fighter changes weight-classes the move is typically one aimed at slimming down in hopes of achieving success against similarly-sized opponents rather than having to deal with larger foes. Interestingly enough, UFC middleweight Alan Belcher is actually looking to do the opposite and will attempt to beef up to compete as a 205er despite having lost back-to-back bouts at 185 pounds.
Belcher’s goal was confirmed by his manager on this week’s episode of UFC Tonight. Also, regardless of weight, “The Talent” has December targeted for his return to the Octagon. The UFC currently has three cards scheduled for the month in question – UFC Fight Night 33 (12/14), UFC on FOX 9 (12/21), and UFC 168 (12/28).
The 18-8 Belcher has finished all but two of the adversaries he’s exited victorious against with seven submissions and nine TKOs to his credit. Belcher fought before at light heavyweight with mixed results, though he clearly sees some advantage in heading back rather than remaining in his current divisional home.
