Top Ten UFC Lightweight Strikers

Winner of his last two, ‘The Bull’ certainly prefers to be on his feet (we saw him get quickly dispatched on the ground by an overweight Dennis Hallman). He was set to take a huge step up in competition against Edson Barbosa, but got hurt. If we see him against a wrestler he better continue to work on his takedown defense, or he may find himself on the losing end again. Mandatory Credit: Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Here is a list of some the UFC lightweights that can throw leather.  Many of these fighters have made a career out of slick striking coupled with a good amount of knockout power.  It is tough to identify the best strikers because the division is so stacked right now, but here are who I think, in order, the best strikers in the UFC’s lightweight division. Honorable Mention: Nate Diaz, Melvin Guillard, and Rafael Dos Anjos.

John Makdessi and Gilbert Melendez but no Melvin Guilard, Josh Thompson, or Tony Ferguson? Even Nate Diaz is a better pure striker than some of the guys you have listed.

Glad you put Njokuani on the list though.

  • Rich S. says:

Not bad. I’d probably put Cowboy right behind Pettis.

  • SBERG says:

Yea I’m surprised about Thomson not being there and I think Masvidal should be higher….But hey it’s the writers list so he can do as he pleases….

  • raker says:

I don’t necessarily agree with the list but it is subjective. I woulda had Guillard ranked after Pettis. It’s funny that the last two title holders aren’t on the list as they felt it was better to change divisions. Both BJ and Edgar would be very high on my list if they were still there.
