Frank Mir-Josh Barnett scheduled for August action

After months of expressing interest in an in-ring meeting and a few verbal slams along the way, UFC heavyweights Frank Mir and Josh Barnett have been booked for a bout. According to an official announcement, the scrap between former champions is scheduled to take place on August 31 at UFC 164 in Milwaukee.

Mir is coming off a pair of consecutive losses but looked tough in his last outing after a recent move to Greg Jackson’s camp. He is 16-7 in his career with twelve stoppages and past wins over the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roy Nelson, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

The 32-6 Barnett will be fighting in the Octagon for the first time in more than a decade, compiling a ton of wins overseas in Japan as well as a few Stateside for Strikeforce and Affliction. Like Mir, Barnett is a grappler by trade, possessing 20 instances of success by way of submission.

  • MCM says:

Man I hope Mir forgoes his “striking” in this one and we get to watch these two battle it out on the ground. I get the feeling Mir could actually take it in a grappling match.

  • fanoftna33 says:

Really looking forward to this fight, hope to see the warmaster pull off a sub here.

  • AlphaOmega says:

Hopefully Mir takes it seriously, and not well he’s from SF so I don’t have to worry that badly because none of the guys at SF can match us UFC guys.

  • sdouglasmc says:

Was a big Mir fan but f-him now. He goes in there to not lose bad. When was the last time he actually grappled? Nog? Bah… I’m just sour after him disappointing me so much. I’m like a scorned girl.
