Mark Hunt stuck in New Zealand due to visa issues

UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt has found himself stuck in an unexpected battle a little more than two weeks out from to his co-headlining clash with Junior dos Santos at UFC 160. According to the heavy-handed kickboxer, he has been denied the ability to leave New Zealand based on a past arrest affecting the status of his visa.

“This is what happens when you have friends that are dickheads. The last f*ckin time I help these motherf*ckin trouble makers,” wrote Hunt on Twitter early this morning. “Denied again at airport. I’m never helping anymore dickhead mates.”

Hunt didn’t go into details of his arrest but indicated it was the result of a friend’s actions. He also didn’t indicate the issue would cost him the ability to compete against Dos Santos on May 25 though clearly the possibility is there.

The 39-year old is attempting to fly to the United States as a means of acclimating to the time difference between his home in New Zealand and Las Vegas where UFC 160 is being held.

UFC officials have yet to comment on the still-developing situation.

  • MCM says:

Am I the only one looking forward to this fight more than the Main Event? I hope really hope this isn’t a problem, but if I were Big Country or Travis Browne I’d be getting in shape just in case.

  • THEGUNNER says:

Im already not ordering this one because I dont wanna see the same fight that wasnt a main event last year without this fight this card should be free.

  • Creature says:

Im looking forward to this fight most on the card, if it gets canceled i will be seriously pissed and disappointed. But at least its got 3 other great fights in Maynard/Grant, Te Huna/Glover and Cer-row-nay/Noons.

Should be a great night of fights.

  • darth_irritable says:

I think Velasquez slaughters Silva again, but since the card has two Kiwis on it, with meaningful outcomes, I’ll be there.

  • hindsightufuk says:

for his sake i hope Mark Hunt can get this sorted. man i really wanna see this fight.
for some reason most fighters i support are never gonna be champions (not since BJ and Randy anyway), the closest they ever get is a big fight like this (and they rarely win), or lose a title fight (Diaz x 2). so this is one of those guys in one of those fights, most likely he’ll lose but i get to go bat shit crazy shouting for them to win though
