Mark Hunt doesn’t believe Junior dos Santos will stand with him

Junior dos Santos - MMAWEEKLYUFC heavyweight Mark Hunt has made a career out separating other from consciousness thanks to his polished kickboxing background and power-punching style. Though Hunt hopes to produce the same result on May 25 when he meets Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, he isn’t sure he’ll have the opportunity to do so based on his expectations of how “Cigano” will approach the fight.

“I do think he’s going to try to take the fight to the mat once he realizes that I have a huge arsenal,” said Hunt in a recent interview with the UFC.

Hunt’s assessment is surprising given Dos Santos’ own love of stand-up. The former divisional king owes twelve of his fifteen wins to a strike-based stoppage.

  • AlphaOmega says:

I think JDS will keep it standing, but will utilize his speed more and not stand in the pocket. Then again against Cain he made sure to constantly talk about how much ground he was working on with the Nog bros, so maybe he’s wanting to show off that he has good jits skills

  • climbarock says:

I would be shocked to see JDS take this to the ground. This one should be fireworks.

  • MCM says:

JDS took down Carwin, so I can see him taking down Hunt. Plus it’s the easiest way to beat him.
