A light heavyweight bout between heavy-handed Brazilians will add to the expected fireworks on Fourth of July Weekend this year in the form of a fight between Thiago Silva–Rafael Cavalcante. Together the two have combined for 21 knockouts in 25 total victories and should be gunning for an impressive finish after seeing recent wins overturned due to drug-related suspensions.
MMAFighting was first to report the rumble’s addition to the July 6 lineup for UFC 162. The show is expected to feature a headlining tilt between middleweight champ Anderson Silva and top contender Chris Weidman.
The 14-3 Silva hasn’t officially won a fight since 2009, seeing success against Brandon Vera (steroids) and Stanislav Nedkov (marijuana) changed to No Contests. However, he has had his hand raised against Houston Alexander and Keith Jardine in the past and is one of the most dangerous 205ers in the sport when healthy/clean.
“Feijao” will be making his UFC debut in the bout. The former Strikeforce title-holder has been out of action since May after getting popped for PEDs. He is 11-3 in his career with his most notable triumph to date coming against Muhammed Lawal.
