UFC on Fuel 8 Bonuses: Wanderlei Silva wins two bonuses for fantastic finish of Brian Stann

Brian Stann v Wanderlei Silva - UFC on Fuel 8 Press ConferenceMMA legend Wanderlei Silva returned to Japan tonight after a lengthy period away from the nation he made a name for himself in and delivered in fine fashion with a knockout in the second round of action. While opponent Brian Stann definitely showed up to fight, hurting Silva in the first five minutes, he ultimately fell to some solid blows and was unable to recover before the referee jumped in to stop the scrap.

Their mutual effort was named the evening’s Fight of the Night and rightfully so after an opening round for the ages followed up by more fun and a finish that sent fans home happy. For the distinction each received $50,000.

Mark Hunt was also one of the evening’s biggest winners with a third round knockout of Stefan Struve, dropping the seven-footer with a huge shot said to have broken the Dutchman’s jaw. Hunt’s finish marked his fourth win in a row inside the Octagon and scored him $50,000 for Knockout of the Night.

No Submission of the Night was awarded since no tap-outs were recorded. However, since Silva’s stoppage of Stann was so sweet, “The Axe Murderer” pocketed another $50,000 for a second Knockout of the Night award.

Silva and Stan proved to be a match made in mma heaven. Two guys who like to stand and bang coming together giving no quarter, asking no quarter. Respect to both and I have to say I was so pumped to see the Axe Murderer ply his trade looking very close to Wandy of old!

I felt sorry for Stann as I have nothing but respect for him but someone had to lose.

I was pumped to see Hunt get his big time ko on Struve, once again felt bad for skyscraper but play with the bull you’ll get the horns. He needed to keep that fight on the ground and didn’t. Give Hunt credit though as he made it happen, and please don’t say Struve has a glass chin.

Hunt has made a career of making guys look glass chinned, and Struve took some brutal shots before he was put away.

I felt bad for Gomi as I thought he won his fight, but judging will never change and as long as you let them decide you’ll get goofy results.
