Georges St-Pierre supremely confident leading up to clash with Nick Diaz

UFC 158 PosterUFC welterweight Nick Diaz is seen by most fans as one of the top five fighters at 170 pounds, possessing an overall record of 28-6 and wins in eleven of his last twelve tilts. However, to champion Georges St-Pierre, Diaz is just one more in a long line of challengers who have boasted about being better leading up to a bout only to look second rate come showtime.

In St-Pierre’s opinion, the difference between his skill-set and Diaz’s will be evident within the first five minutes of their March 16 match-up at UFC 158. And, regardless of how long their fight goes, he’ll be the one dictating the pace rather than the controversial Californian.

“After the first round Nick Diaz will know that he’s gonna have a bad night and I’m a better fighter than he is,” said St-Pierre in an interview with the UFC. “When I want the fight to go somewhere I’m taking the fight where I want it to be.”

“I believe I’m more athletic than him, I have more tools, and that’s why I’m gonna win the fight,” he continued. “He’s very good with his hands. He’s a great boxer, one of the best in Mixed Martial Arts. But I’m training with better boxers than him and guys who I believe are better in that regard.”

As talented as Diaz is, it’s hard to dismiss GSP’s confidence. The 23-2 St-Pierre has had his hand raised ten straight times including wins over Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, B.J. Penn, Jake Shields, and most recently Carlos Condit.

  • MCM says:

Hard not to agree with GSP in this one. I don’t think Georges will finish him and I know Diaz won’t quit, but I can’t honestly see any way GSP loses this fight, outside of one of the studio lights dropping on him.

  • AlphaOmega says:

I’m honestly hoping that GSP just tears him up and leaves him a bloodied pulp, then at the post fight interview, he says this is what happens to people who disrespect me..and then looks at Hendricks.

  • fanoftna33 says:

I think the only way GSP gets a finish here is stoppage by cuts. Other than that it will be very hard for him to finish Diaz. On the other side Diaz can get a sub or a ko.

  • moosebaby02 says:

Alpha that would be awesome. I can see the the bloddied up part but the talking and Hendricks stear no. But it would set up for a great story/show
