Gabriel Gonzaga taking on Travis Browne at TUF 17 Finale

Travis Browne - UFC on FX 5 WorkoutsHeavyweight action between Gabriel Gonzaga and Travis Browne has been booked for the Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale and, though there are no certainties in MMA, a highlight reel ending seems likely considering the reputations both men enter the Octagon with. Gonzaga has finished all fourteen of the opponents he’s beaten, while “Hapa” has put away eleven of the thirteen foes he’s felled.

UFC officials have confirmed the clash’s addition to the April 13 card. No other bouts have been announced thus far, though UFC President Dana White did reveal all of the Ultimate Fighter 17 contestants will be inked to deals after the show concludes based on the effort shown during the season.

Gonzaga (14-6) is riding the momentum of a three-fight winning streak including a recent submission of Ben Rothwell, the ninth tap-out of his career.

Meanwhile, the 13-1-1 Browne suffered his first stumble last October when a leg injury assisted Antonio Silva in scoring a TKO. Prior to the loss he’d beaten the likes of Chad Griggs and Stefan Struve during his five-fight run in the UFC.

Nice to Gonzoga giving it another go, I know he had talked about calling it quits a while back or only doing jitz or something like that.

If Browns leg is good he should take this one for sure. I like Gonzage but if he shows up against Brown the way he looked vs Rothwell ( tired in the first round) Brown gets the tko.

Browne uninjured is a test for any HW not named JDS or Cain-saying that-he should kick the shit out of old
    hairy back

IF Gonzaga can get this to the ground, I think he pulls off the submission. But that’s a big if.
Gonzaga has always had a great ground game, but he seemed to forget it in his earlier UFC bouts. He decided to trade with Schaub and lost. He hurt Carwin and instead of getting the fight to the ground where he had a massive advantage, he decided to stand and bang with him. He even broke Randy’s arm but never tried shot for the takedown.
If a new, focused Gonzaga comes in and plays to his strengths, I think he can make a serious run in the HW division… long as his glass chin isn’t touched.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Gonzaga just isn’t that good. He’s got 9 career victories under the UFC banner, which is pretty impressive on the surface, but in reality he’s beaten a bunch of scrubs. His signature victory was the highlight reel head kick KO of Cro Cop, but apart from that his victories have come against scrubs with a cumulative UFC record of 6-17.

Browne wins this one, likely by (T)KO.

Browne is going to destroy Gonzo!!
