UFC on FOX 6 Results: Demetrious Johnson pulls out decision victory over John Dodson

UFC on FOX 6 BannerThe words of Frank Sinatra rang true tonight for MMA fans, as Chicago has become their kind of town thanks to UFC on FOX 6. The show unfolded this evening from the Windy City with a lineup featuring a number of intriguing match-ups as well as a title-fight at the top, giving those in attendance plenty to cheer about.

Headlined by Demetrious Johnson putting his flyweight gold up for grabs against hard-hitting dynamo John Dodson, the card was also highlighted by bouts between Ryan Bader-Vladimir Matyushenko, Donald CerroneAnthony Pettis, and Quinton Jackson-Glover Teixeira.

Bader and Pettis were both able to deliver finishes in their respective rumbles. Bader rocked Matyushenko, then sprung on top to secure his first submission victory in the Octagon as well as the fastest at 205 pounds in UFC history. Meanwhile, Pettis put Cerrone away with strikes in the opening round of their tilt thanks to a series of stiff shots to the Jackson MMA fighter’s midsection. Teixeira, on the other hand, went the distance against “Rampage” in an entertaining affair seeing the Brazilian emerge with his hand raised by way of Unanimous Decision.

In the main event, Johnson was able to hold on after being dropped a few times including a fourth frame where he pummeled Dodson with knees. “Mighty Mouse” sealed the deal with five more minutes of solid offense, picking up a win in the first title-defense of his career. The triumph improved Johnson’s overall record to 17-2-1 and was his third straight at 125 pounds.

    Pettis

    Bader

  • Richard Stabone says:

Where the hell ya been, Faust? Spend some time in the hospital for a head injury, perhaps? I mean, Bader??? :)

I guess I’m the one picking Rampage so I better pipe down for the time being…

  • Lord Faust says:

Been busy as Hell good sir. (I also have poor time management skills.)

I think Matty’s age and the fact he’s coming off a long layoff will work against him. I see Bader winning a moderately exciting decision.

  • Lord Faust says:

    Bwahaha. Thank you Mr. Bader.

  • Richard Stabone says:

    Haha wtf Vlad? Terrible.

That was kinda like what Tito did to Bader.

  • Lord Faust says:

Fastest submission in LHW history. Damn.

  • Lord Faust says:

For the record, I picked Guida because he knows how to win decisions. Fights, not so much.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Yeah Guida’s charm has been gradually wearing off for a while now. Incredibled performance by Grant though. Dude looked like he was sparring…a calm methodical beat down.

  • Lord Faust says:

Indeed. His muay thai was damn pretty, those elbows in the clinch were just sick.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

    Lamas
    Pettis
    Teixeira
    Dodson

    And well done, TJ Grant.
A KO is awesome, but a blood on the camera KO is UBER-awesome.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

    Talk about yer Bloody
    Elbow!

    Nice job, Lamas!

  • fanoftna33 says:

I got Pettis over Cerrone by ko coming up.

  • Lord Faust says:

Koch’s face got turned into pulled pork. Jeeze/

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

    Iiiiiit’s SHOWTIME!
    Awesome finish Mr.Pettis!

  • Richard Stabone says:

Yep, you strike with Showtime you end up like Lauzon & Cowboy…crumpled in the opening round.

  • Lord Faust says:

Brutal body kicks by Pettis. That’s scary, how quickly he beat a tough bastard like Cerrone.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Guys like Lauzon & Cowboy just don’t get finished by strikes…and Pettis made quick work of both in dynamic, dominating fashion.

Pettis vs. Aldo would be insane.

But Showtime can beat Bendo again first.

  • fanoftna33 says:

Pettis has proven he deserves that title shot for sure, hope to see Pettis vs the winner of Henderson Melendez soon.

  • fanoftna33 says:

Coming up I have Jackson by KO and Dodson by ko.

  • Lord Faust says:

Rampage / Glover is the only fight I am remotely concerned about getting wrong. Both guys have a lot of question marks in my mind. Either way, I expect I’ll been high on adrenaline.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

    Jackson vs. Teixeira

    Great fight.
I wish it was 5 rounds.
Jackson was way better than I expected.
    But this is Teixeira’s fight.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Decent performance by Page. He’s obviously well past his prime, in terms of age, in terms of wear & tear, and in terms of financial stability and hunger to succeed. He hasn’t been shit since he did the A Team movie. But I thought he’d go out with a bang tonight, and he gave it a decent effort both in preparation & in the cage tonight.

Another good performance by Glover. He’s tough, a damn tough dude, but not top of the division material.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

I’m predicting Jackson has a post fight late night hook up set up with the woman from the weigh ins.
He strikes me as the kind of guy that’ ll purposely come in a pound heavy at the weigh- ins just so he can drop his ‘draws’ show his junk to a pretty girl.

  • Richard Stabone says:

I started to doubt MM early on but he really pulled away as the fight played out. I dont care how small he is, that level of cardio/strength/stamina is crazy.

But Uncle Creepy wants another crack.

  • Lord Faust says:

    *crackes knuckles*

    It’s good to be back. 5-0. :)

  • Richard Stabone says:

Heh…not bad, Faust. I nailed the early fights but Vlad burned me & taking a flier on Rampage was dumb.

Good night of fights. I was most interested in the Pettis fight and he kicked more add than I even expected.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

And THAT’s why you’re the Lord.
I was that close to being 4-0 but alas,Johnson is a freak of nature.
Great main event and a great night of FREE fights.

  • Lord Faust says:

This was a really fun event to watch. I was very impressed with Dodson; not by his power — which everyone saw — but the fact he was able to survive all 5 rounds. He’ll be back in contention if he keeps it up.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

By the way, do you guys think they should abolish the 3 point stance rule?
I’ll accept one knee on the ground as being downed, but touching the ground while on two feet to keep from getting kneed is bullshit ,IMO.
I hope tonight’s main event will be enough evidence to get rid of the rule.

  • RicM says:

Well said. Doc…….btw, welcome back, Lordy!!!!

  • Richard Stabone says:

Yep. Agree with doc on that rule change. Wish it would happen.

  • darth_irritable says:

Am I the only one that saw Dodson and Johnson in front of Big John and thought they looked like his illegitimate midget children at the perfect height for breastfeeding?

Maybe I’m just messed up, but they were totally nipple height.

  • RicM says:

Jeez, Darth, I just laughed my drink thru my nose………, on that note, I wonder if Big John thought he was in the land of the Ooompa-Looompa……….

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

    @Darth
    You are correct.
    They were totally nipple height,
and you are just messed up.

One highlight of the night was when Big John asked Dodson” Am I ugly?” after the eye poke.

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

And by the way, they prefer to be called ” Little People”.
