The last time the UFC set up shop in Brazil one of the evening’s headliners, Stephan Bonnar, tested positive for PEDs and put a black eye on an otherwise excellent event. Though the same thing is certainly possible this weekend when UFC on FX 7 unfolds in Sao Paolo, the UFC has at least instituted a pair of new policies aimed at curbing any cheating related to drug use.
According to Mark Ratner, UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, every fighter will be tested for banned substances including undercard athletes. Also, no bonuses will be paid out until results are in rather than checks being cut the night of the event.
Ratner’s comments on the matter came in a conversation with MMAJunkie.
UFC on FX 7 features a main event match-up between Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping. The UFC will handle the drug tests for the show as they do for any international cards in regions without an athletic commission in order.
