Bellator announces opening round match-ups of Season 8 welterweight tournament

Welterweight Ben Saunders will take another crack at winning a Bellator tournament in a little more than two weeks along with seven of his divisional peers when Bellator 86 unfolds from Oklahoma, and now the world knows who “Killa B” will collide with in the cage. Earlier today, the organization released the brackets for the opening round of the division’s Season 8 field.

Specifically, the 14-5-2 Saunders will see action against Koffi Adzitso (18-9).

“Everyone knows what type of energy I bring into every one of my fights, and to have the opportunity to do it on Spike is all I could ask for,” said Saunders in a prepared statement to media.

Other match-ups include Raul Amaya (10-1) going up against seasoned newcomer Jose Gomes (32-8-1), Marius Zaromskis (19-7) battling fellow veteran Brent Weedman (20-8-1), and former finalist Douglas Lima (22-5) meeting Russian submission specialist Michail Tsarev (24-3).

“From top to bottom, our welterweight division has a collection of pure finishers that have put on some wildly entertaining fights,” offered excited CEO Bjorn Rebney. “With a welterweight title-fight, the debut of ‘King Mo’ and a stacked welterweight tournament, January 24 is going to be a huge night from WinStar World Casino.”

The January 24 show will mark Bellator’s second on Spike TV.

thats a fucking awesome card, plus Askren vs Amasou 5 rounds means 5 top quality fights plus whatever King Mo turns up. this is about as stacked a card as Bellator has ever had. real pleased to see Brent Weedman back, though i wonder how effective he will be back at WW after his stint at 155. thought he looked better there. love the guy, can’t wait to see him fight.
only 1 week left before the season starts, i am so effing chuffed to have it back

  • That’s a damn sick card and I for one am really hoping for a Lima vs Saunders rematch, that fight was great back n forth shit till Ben got tagged.
As usual Im takin Killa B to win the tourney. I like that kid and he shows a really sick bottom game with awesome strike to submission and back to striking transitions.

i think Ben has really improved between UFC and BFC, i became a fan of his after watching him out grapple and eventually submit a legit bjj black belt in Luis Santos. Awesome performance, look forward to seeing him fight soon
