Hector Lombard locking horns with Yushin Okami in Japan

Yushin OkamiA match between UFC middleweights Hector Lombard and Yushin Okami has been added to the lineup for UFC on Fuel 8, pitting two of the top 185ers in MMA against each other at the organization’s March 2 stop in Saitama, Japan. Both men are coming off impressive wins and can position themselves nicely in the contendership picture if victorious come showtime.

UFC officials have confirmed the bout.

Lombard (32-3-1) is fresh off a knockout of Rousimar Palhares to pick up his first win inside the Octagon since coming over from Bellator where he held the promotion’s middleweight title. 25 of his wins have featured some form of finish including those against Jesse Taylor, Trevor Prangley, and Brian Ebersole.

The 28-7 Okami was last seen outpoint Alan Belcher at UFC 155. The triumph was his second straight, adding to success in the cage over the likes of Mark Munoz and Nate Marquardt.

So I got Lombard/Okami winner fighting Rockhold/Larkin winner (I know that fight isn’t made but I think it would be funny if their first fight in the UFC is against each other since the rumor is Rockhold dodged Larkin to preserve his rep going into the UFC)
Winner of that fights for the title.

Meanwhile, as the always trustworthy Dana White says, Bisping gets Spider next if he wins. As a back-up plan and to give Weidman another win to boost his rep, have Weidman fight Cung Le. So Bisping or Weidman get Spider, whomever looked the best and has less injuries. If they both lose then have both winners (Belfort vs Le) fight and Spider could fight Rockhold or Lombard (whomever looked best in their fight) in the meantime, unless Mousasi looks good against Kyle and the UFC wants to dispose of him by giving him his wish to come down and fight Spider.

    What do y’all think?

    on a sidebar, i got:
    Franklin vs Belcher
    Munoz vs Boetsch
winners fight each other (loser type bracket. winner of this will have two wins in a row and back in the mix)

One way or another they gotta get Silva back in the cage sooner than later. His fight against Bonnar was a fun little exhibition but let’s get the MW belt back in the mix. Since beating Okami back in August 2011, Silva has defended the belt one freaking time in the last 17 months & counting…and he’ll soon turn 38 years old. Wasted time while the greatest fighter of all time dicks around with GSP talk & making a shitty Seagal movie.

So who does he fight next…

First off, Weidman won’t be back in action till summer while he continues to recover from injury, so he’s out of the mix for at least a little bit.

In the meantime, hopefully Bisping beats Vitor and Lombard beats Okami. Both guys are facing stiff tests, so if either emerges victorious that guy should get the next shot…hopefully by summer.

Ideally, both come away with a win, which sets up Bisping for his long-awaited title shot. And then I’d like to see Lombard fight Weidman to determine the next #1 contender. This way, Silva would have two legitimate opponents for 2013.

But if Bisping & Lombard both lose, the situation is kinda f*cked. Silva has already beaten Belfort & Okami (2 of his past 3 title defenses), and it wouldn’t work well to stick Weidman directly into a title shot upon his return. With Boetsch & Belcher each losing at UFC 155, it’s definitely time for a new contender to step up.
