Alistair Overeem comments on Cain Velasquez’s win at UFC 155

Velasquez v Dos SantosOne person with a vested interest in last night’s heavyweight title-tilt between Cain Velasquez/Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 was Alistair Overeem, the man most see as being next in line for a crack at the championship. Overeem was originally supposed to face Dos Santos for the belt in May but was forced to withdraw after an elevated T:E ratio brought on by testosterone use was discovered. He and “Cigano” have been jawing back and forth ever since, seemingly setting up a showdown for the strap with both personal and professional issues at play.

However, as Overeem predicted, Dos Santos failed in his bid to beat Velasquez in their rematch. Needless to say, “The Demolition Man” was watching the bout and happy with what he saw.

“JDS looks pretty,” Overeem joked on Twitter in relation to the former champ’s mangled face. “Great fight though. Aaaand, its all over… Great fight, great performance by Cain. Nice!”

With his drug-related matter behind him, Overeem will return to the Octagon on February 2 at UFC 156 where he’s slated to face Antonio Silva. If victorious the hard-hitting Dutchman will be named the division’s clear cut #1 contender.

Careful what you ask for. Not sure Overeem really wants a piece of the Cain that showed up last night. Not sure anyone could have stopped Cain.

  • Creature says:

I personally like Overreems chances against cain, hes bigger and a much more diverse fighter than JDS. Guess after he mauls Bigfoot we will get to find out!

  • THEGUNNER says:

Id rather see reem and jds battle out the bad blood.

  • MCM says:

I don’t think Overeem is gonna get passed Big Foot,so he’s not gonna face Cain anyway. I too would like to see him matched up with JDS next.

  • moosebaby02 says:

Reem will beat Big Foot. But aginst the Cain I seen last night……he is in big trouble

  • Midget says:

I’d like to see Cain fight Werdum. JDS fight Overeem with the winner to get a shot at Cain.
Timing won’t allow it to happen though

  • locoRover says:

Cains pace won him that fight in the first round. All those “shots” before the big punch are what beat Jds. No self respecting wrestler would think those shots were meant to take down, they were meant to wear jds down. Cain had a masterful gameplan.

I don’t think that plan will work v overeem, unless Cain feels like eating some big knees after half-hearted takedown attempts.

That being said, overeem v Cain will be a very interesting (and only) matchup to make, granted reem gets past Bigfoot. I can’t imagine jds being any less than 2-3 wins away after his performance last night.

And I can’t wait for Cormier to throw his foot in the ring for cains belt.

Things are very interesting in the HW division to say the least.

Overeem stylistically is better suited to fight JDS than Cain. Having said that the Reem showed he has the ability to hold off Brock’s takedown’s so he should be able to keep the fight where he needs it to be.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Reem fight whoever they put in front of him, I sense the belt changing hands several times over the next few years.

locoRover I have a sense that Cormier will be dropping to LHW. He has hinted so and has been taken slight little jabs at Bones a couple of times. Plus he and Cain are boys….but so were Jones and Evans so anything can happen.
HW div is looking fun right now. Even better if they bring Barnett over see how he fits in the mix

  • jasonah says:

I watched the fight as well. and I seen Junoir’s will get broken in the first round, after cain tagged him with a couple good shots. i fell pretty safe to say that’s the worst ass Beating, Junior Had in a long time, or ever! if that Cain show’s up against overeem, i just see don’t see Overeem making it out of there with big muscles and Testostorone infused horsemeat diet.

  • Rece Rock says:

HW is exciting again…but we need more talent.
