Brian Stann battling Wanderlei Silva at UFC on Fuel 8

Wanderlei Silva v Rich FranklinAfter a six-year absence, MMA icon Wanderlei Silva will return to Japan for a rumble sure to entertain in the form of a fight with Brian Stann. Like Silva, Stann prefers to strike and has no problem exchanging in the pocket in hopes of producing a knockout win. Interestingly enough, Silva’s scrap with Stann will be contested at 205 pounds, marking a return to the division for both men, and be contested in a five-round format.

UFC officials have also confirmed the clash will headline UFC on Fuel 8. The show is scheduled for March 3 in Saitama, Japan and will also feature Takanori Gomi-Diego Sanchez as well as Mark Hunt-Stefan Struve.

The 12-5 Stann has lost two of his last three bouts, most recently falling by way of decision to Michael Bisping. The 32-year old former Marine has nine knockouts to his credit in addition to success against the likes of Alessio Sakara, Chris Leben, and Jorge Santiago.

Silva is in a similar position as far as his recent performances go though his reputation far exceeds that of Stann. “The Axe Murderer” is one of the most popular fighters in MMA history, compiling an overall record of 34-12-1 and 24 strike-based stoppages in a career spanning fifteen years and featuring a lengthy stint in Japan as part of PRIDE where he picked up victories over Dan Henderson and Quinton Jackson.

  • This doesn’t look too promising for the axe murderer. Cant wait to see it go down though

  • trupert says:

SO much for Wandy going back up to LHW and Stann vs Munoz.
I guess you can do Munoz vs Le and have the winners of these two fight each other?

  • trupert says:

sorry, just read Stann-Silva will be at 205 not 185.

  • hindsightufuk says:

i wanted Wandy to have a fight where he wasnt guaranteed to get knocked out, get him against a wrestler or bjj guy. just feel this could go the same as the Leben fight

  • Dr.Stoppage says:

I wish this fight was happening on NYE in Japan.

  • THEGUNNER says:

It would be nice to see wandy get out without being brutally ko ed. Im thinking stanns gonna retire wandy that night.

  • Richard Stabone says:

I like this matchup. Wandy has been hanging on, in the twilight phase of his career, for a while now, but Stann continues to be overrated. This should be an entertaining scrap.
