Roger Gracie fighting Anthony Smith at newly-named Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine

With the threat of Strikeforce’s next show also being the organization’s last, the promotion appears to be doing its best to find spots for its stars on the January 12 lineup. As such, it looks like middleweight Roger Gracie will see action at the show (now dubbed Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine).

Though not officially announced, MMAOpinion has reported a bout between Gracie and rising star Anthony Smith where the talented submission-specialist will look to build off the momentum of a win in his most recent rumble.

The 5-1 Gracie was last seen outpointing Keith Jardine earlier this year. The decision marked the first of his MMA career with his other quartet of wins all involving a tap-out finish.

Smith holds an overall record of 17-8 and has emerged victorious in his last three tilts. Sixteen of his instances of success have involved some form of stoppage.

  • AlphaOmega says:

So did someone read the comments here and decided to drop the champions because of them?

  • Richard Stabone says:

Jeez, is there a fighter on SF’s roster that hasn’t been booked for this event somewhere along the way?

  • AlphaOmega says:

Also, is it just me, or do the SF announcers not know how to pronounce Gracie’s name? First it was Roger, then Hoger, then a mixture of the two, then they go back to others. Plus I’m pretty sure the first time I saw him fight, he didn’t have a brazillian accent being from NY, and now in interviews he does. It’s all very weird to me

  • Richard Stabone says:

I think the only way to really nail the pronunciation is to be extremely intoxicated.

  • Rece Rock says:

At least they changed the name of the event.

Is Scott Smith or Robbie Lawler booked to fight? When I think of SF those two guys immediately come to mind.
