Ronaldo Souza steps in to face Lorenz Larkin at Strikeforce: Champions

Strikeforce middleweight Lorenz Larkin was hoping to face divisional king Luke Rockhold on January 12 for the title. However, an injury forced Rockhold off the card, giving Larkin an opportunity to prove himself against the next best thing – Ronaldo Souza.

Souza, who held the belt before losing it by decision to the current champion, has been named as Rockhold’s replacement and will now serve as Larkin’s opponent at Strikeforce: Champions. The bout has been confirmed by Strikeforce officials.

“Jacare” is one of MMA’s legitimate submission specialists, racking up a ton of success on the BJJ scene before turning his attention to action in a cage. He holds an overall record of 16-3 including twelve tap-outs and past wins over the likes of Robbie Lawler, Matt Lindland, Derek Brunson, and Tim Kennedy.

The 13-0 Larkin is coming off an outpointing of Lawler, his fourth victory under the Strikeforce banner.

Glad that they are doing everything they can to keep the show going, and that Showtime isn’t telling them nope we won’t show it unless these certain people are there.

think its about time they dropped the Champions from the event name

Or just add a question mark.

You should always leave any job with professionalism no matter what the sport or what profession. The champions don’t seem to want to risk their positioning for a UFC contract once Strikeforce is all said and done.

I’m now firmly hoping AGAINST Rockhold and Melendez for the rest of their careers. I give major props to Souza for taking this fight. This is going to be a very entertaining card with or without the “champions”.
