Cung Le: “I got lucky and caught him.”

MMA fans can go to their local movie theater tonight and catch Cung Le show off some of his martial arts prowess in The Man with the Iron Fists. However, those tuning in yesterday to take in UFC on Fuel 6 already had a chance to see Le dish out damage with a knockout of Rich Franklin so brutal it called into question what substance his hands might be made of.

“I’ve gotta say wow too. It’s like a dream. I feel like I’m in a dream right now,” said Le in an interview with Fuel TV after the win. “I saw him timing my kicks so I waited for him to punch and I threw that overhand right. I got lucky and caught him.”

“It was a money punch,” he concluded.

The win was Le’s second straight in the Octagon and the most impressive of his career, setting the 40-year old for a possible run at the divisional title in 2013 depending on how long he can hold up physically. The former Strikeforce champion previously admitted he was only 80% entering the fight with Franklin based on a foot injury sustained in a July victory over Patrick Cote and is dealing with a handful of other minor afflictions as well.

Still, Le has no plans of hanging up his gloves unless forced, explaining, “I love to do martial arts, I love to compete. If I could do it as long as I live, I’d do it, but I know my clock is ticking so I’m just doing my best. I definitely want to take a little vacation before I star up training again – let my body heal up, my foot completely heal.”

Check out the complete interview with Le below:

  • That was seriously one of the prettiest/ugliest Ko’s Ive ever seen…..whichever way you want to look at it.

  • MickeyC says:

Nasty knockout. Wonder if it has Rich reconsidering retirement. Or if he is reconsidering his reconsideration of the newest addition of ultimate knockouts.

  • Lord Faust says:

I was dead tired waking up for the main card, and that KO almost knocked ME out of my chair. Le looked like he had nothing; no spinning attacks, no kicks, clearly on a bad wheel, and Rich just threw one sloppy and kick and BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE. Gotta give Le credit, for a touted kicker, dude has some serious power in his hands — the video speaks for itself.

  • Niv says:

Nothing lucky about that punch. Le’s being humble but he knows he timed that beautifully as Franklin repeated that kick and dropped his left several times leading to the ko.

It sucks when two good guys go into the ring as I hate seeing likeable fighters get taken out the way Franklin did.

  • hindsightufuk says:

Cung is looking fatter every time he fights, a ko was gonna be his only way of winning, & what a beauty it was. just dont see him competing at the top though
