Ultimate Fighter 16 cast features Strikeforce, Bellator veterans

With less than three weeks to go before the curtain drops on the UFC’s latest entry in the popular Ultimate Fighter reality series the cast of 32 fighters competing for sixteen spots in the Season 16 house has been revealed and it features a handful of familiar faces for hardcore fans.

Among those names MMA enthusiasts may have seen in action before are Bristol Marunde and Sam Alvey. Marunde fought Ronaldo Souza under the Strikeforce banner on short notice earlier this year, while Alvey made a name for himself in Bellator by beating Karl Amoussou in tournament action before falling via Split Decision in his follow-up fight. He has since gone 4-1 including wins in his last two outings.

The FX-bound TUF 16 debuts on September 14 with two teams of welterweights being headed by heavyweight rivals Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson, a situation itself poised to create fireworks.

“Carwin and Nelson are two guys who just can’t stand each other and Roy and I haven’t exactly seen eye to eye either – he’s been a nightmare for me to work with on this show with all his stupid BS,” said UFC President Dana White in the press release revealing the cast.

The first episode will feature sixteen fights with each winner moving on to a regular spot on the show.
