Mike Kyle, Gian Villante both set to see action at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy

A pair of familiar faces from the Strikeforce roster will welcome two relative newcomers next month when light heavyweights Mike Kyle and Gian Villante face Dion Starling and Guto Inocente respectively at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy. The quartet of competitors are all known for finishing foes, indicating fans are likely in for a treat when they take to the cage.

Strikeforce officials have confirmed the addition of Kyle-Inocente and Villante-Starling to the September 29 show. The card is headlined by lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez putting his gold up for grabs against grizzled grinder Pat Healy.

Kyle is 19-8-1 in his career with twelve TKOs to his credit and past success against James Irvin and Rafael Cavalcante. Comparably, Starling holds an overall mark of 28-7 with 22 total stoppages and is currently riding a six-fight winning streak.

In the other bout, the 10-3 Villante will look to add a fourth victory to his run of consecutive triumphs when he meets his Brazilian adversary. Meanwhile, Inocente is unbeaten thus far in his six-fight career and was last seen outpointing Virgil Zwicker this past May in his Strikeforce debut.

  • trupert says:

In probably the weakest SF division, I think the Villante vs Inocente winner should fight Kyle vs Sterling winner and that winner should fight Mousasi for the title.

I’d have Yoel Romero fight Trevor Smith and that winner fight OSP for #1 contender.

other SF LHW fights I’d make:
    Mehman vs Lima
    Rhadi Ferguson vs Nick Rossborough
    Virgil Zwicker vs Joe Cason
TJ Cook vs Steve Bosse (obviously have to sign Steve Bosse)
SF needs to scoop up a couple more like Moise Rimbon and Carlos Eduardo (guy that beat Lima down in Brazil) maybe do:
    Zwicker vs Rimbon
    Cason vs Eduardo
    Cook vs Bosse
….bring in these 3 ‘prospects’ have them first fight the bottom of the SF barrel then move them up to the Mike Kyle level. After two fights and hopefully two wins, SF would have a couple more #1 contenders.
