Heavyweights Stefan Struve-Stipe Miocic headlining UFC’s return to England

The UFC’s September 29 stop in Nottingham, England appears to have its headliner in place after news surfaced stating a scrap between heavyweights Stefan Struve (24-5) and Stipe Miocic (9-0) was set to top the card.

Other already-announced bouts at UFC on Fuel 5, include Brad Pickett-Yves Jabouin and Andy Ogle-Akira Corassani. Paul Sass and Dan Hardy are also expected to see action at the event.

ESPN UK was first to report the match-up between Struve-Miocic and the UFC has since confirmed it.

Struve and Miocic are both coming off winning performances in the previous outings with each racking up a stoppage last month at UFC 146. Struve’s success came via submission in the first round against Lavar Johnson, while Miocic handed Shane del Rosario the first loss of his career thanks to a series of strikes in the second stanza. The finishes were business as usual for each with Struve/Miocic combining for two decisions between them in comparison to thirty TKOs/submissions.

I wonder how much longer I can keep rooting against Struve since he keeps proving me wrong, except for the Big Country fight.

    Right on.
They’re building the Skyscraper just right.
Stipe Miocic (or however you wanna spell and pronounce his name) is a good choice.
Experience vs. Potential for Zuffa Top Ten Heavyweight status.
    I’m picking Struve FTW.

  • MCM says:

wow, they’re really pushing Stipe Miocic. Headlining already? I still see Struve as somewhat of a gatekeeper to the top 10. He’s the right choice for a guy like Miocic at this point in his career, but it kinda seems a step down for Struve. (rankings wise). I would have rather seen Stefan take on a bigger name at this point.

With that said, this looks like a good fight between to very tough HW’s. Like always, if Struve gets clipped, he’s going down. But I’m still picking him for the win in this fight.

  • I agree its a step down in name value but I also think its Stefan’s fight to lose. Stefan has only been truly ko’d by Browne and Roy the jds fight was an early stop…not saying it wouldn’t have ended the same way just that struve could’ve lasted longer. His grappling is top notch and he doesn’t quit. Stipe was hurt by Del Rosario with kicks and if Stefan keeps throwing those he can win this.
