Benson Henderson-Frankie Edgar officially announced for UFC 150

The rematch between UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson and former title-holder Frankie Edgar has an official date/location after UFC President Dana White confirmed the two would face off on August 11 at UFC 150. The show is being held in Denver, Colorado where the Octagon made its debut nearly twenty years ago.

Henderson-Edgar are set to go at it a second time after originally facing off in February with “Bendo” bringing home the belt by way of decision. However, as the fight was relatively close and took place in Japan, the organization decided to give Edgar another crack after considering his willingness to do the same for others in the past in addition to the division’s lack of a consensus top contender.

The loss to Henderson was only the second of Edgar’s career and snapped a seven-fight unbeaten streak. He holds an overall record of 14-2-1 including victories over Sean Sherk, Jim Miller, Gray Maynard, and B.J. Penn.

Likewise, the 16-2 “Smooth” has won all four of his bouts since joining the UFC after a respectable run in WEC. Among his notable triumphs are those over Miller, Donald Cerrone, and Clay Guida.

The UFC 150 lineup is also scheduled to feature fights including Jake Shields-Ed Herman and Luiz Cane-Yushin Okami.

I suppose Edgar has earned it, but lordawmighty am I tired of rematches involving Edgar. What happens if Edgar wins? Does Henderson get one, too? It’s freakin’ Ground Hog’s Day.

That’s why i keep saying for Zuffa to spread out the 155 division and get some of these guys in SF for chances at that belt and for exposure and to keep busy…. this should be the craziest weightclass but instead it’s the craziest wait in line…. they could even do a LW GP in SF and the winner gets a shot at either Gilbert or Bendo… just too much talent to be at a stand still.
